Usually, no notice is needed to end a fixed term lease (like a one-year lease) if you want to end it on the date given in the lease. But some fixed term leases require 30 or 60 days' notice before the ending date. Some leases might even specify move-out times, or days.

Can a lease be changed? The short answer is yes. Although a lease agreement is a legally binding document, it can be amended through an additional written agreement. Changing a lease is a smooth process if both the landlord and tenant come to an agreement on the modifications.

California law allows landlord to change the terms of a month to month tenancy with proper notice. However, changing is not always as simple as just sending a notice.

A lease cannot be varied unless all relevant parties agree to it. Without this agreement, you can't proceed.
