To some extent, your education at Bates is whatever you choose to make it. The campus itself is small and the surrounding town of Lewiston is lacking somewhat in culture and diversity. Still, it is a beautiful and green campus and there is a real closeness of community and integrity at Bates that I think was unique.

Bates College has an acceptance rate of 14%. Half the applicants admitted to Bates College who submitted test scores have an SAT score between 1310 and 1505 or an ACT score of 31 and 33.

Awarded one of America's Best Colleges Its 1,800 undergrads, almost all of them living, eating and hanging out together on campus, are famously friendly to each other and to outsiders. Academics at Bates are challenging without being overwhelming, and campus life is varied.

To have the best shot of getting in, you should aim for the 75th percentile, with a 1460 SAT or a 32 ACT. You should also have a 3.88 GPA or higher. If your GPA is lower than this, you need to compensate with a higher SAT/ACT score.

The application fee for Bates is U.S. $60, and can be submitted via the Common Application or Coalition Application.

With a GPA of 3.88, Bates College requires you to be near the top of your class, and well above average. You'll need mostly A's, ideally with several AP or IB classes to help show your preparation at a college level. If you're a junior or senior, your GPA is hard to change from this point on.
