Sanitize your documents. Choose Tools ? Redact. Click Sanitize Document in the top toolbar. Choose to selectively remove hidden information or remove all by clicking OK. Choose Save As? and save the file with a different name to avoid overwriting the original.

In addition to personal data identifiers, other information that should be redacted include medical records, trade secrets, informant names, and security information.

Cut-out (literally) all the text to be redacted and properly dispose of (shred) the clippings. This method will always be 100% effective. Use opaque (100% impenetrable by light; neither transparent nor translucent) tape or paper to cover over the sections to be redacted.

You can also use a redaction pen or sharpie instead of cutting out the sections. Slightly less time consuming then cutting and shredding, however, still manual. Use opaque tape or paper to cover the redacted sections.

Sharpie Permanent Markers. The marker provides a great alternative if you are looking for a less expensive redaction marker. Considering the price, the Sharpie Permanent Marker does a pretty good job redacting your sensitive information.

Click and drag your cursor across the text you want to redact to do so. drop-down arrow to the right of the ab highlighter bar, which is in the "Font" section of the Home tab. A drop-down menu with different colored boxes will appear. Click the black box.

Choose Tools > Redact. On the Edit menu, choose Redact Text & Images. Select the text or image in a PDF, right-click, and select Redact.
