If you think a provincial or federal law or action violates your Charter rights, you can ask a court to strike down the law or grant another remedy. A remedy is a court order to give someone their legal rights or to compensate them for their rights not being respected.

Sections 7 to 14 set out rights that protect Canadians when dealing with the justice system. They ensure that individuals who are involved in proceedings are treated fairly, especially those charged with a criminal offence.

However, government action that harms these rights is not enough to violate the Charter. Section 7 is violated only when the government infringes these rights in a way that goes against the principles of fundamental justice.

Article 7: Respect for private and family life. Article 8: Protection of personal data - data should be processed fairly and for specified purposes and on the basis of consent or some other lawful basis. Article 9: Right to marry and right to found a family ? guaranteed in ance with national laws.

Article 2(7) of the United Nations Charter attempts to protect the sovereignty of the member states of the United Na- tions. It seeks to maintain a zone of state action beyond the reach of international law and the United Nations.

On the one hand, Chapter VI requires States to settle their disputes by peaceful means. On the other, Chapter VII enables the Security Council to take coercive action with respect to threats to the peace, breaches of the peace and acts of aggression.

Article 7. There are established as principal organs of the United Nations: a General Assembly, a Security Council, an Economic and Social Council, a Trusteeship Council, an International Court of Justice and a Secretariat.

Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of the person and the right not to be deprived thereof except in ance with the principles of fundamental justice.
