Liquor Permit If your outdoor wedding is taking place in Ontario, and you plan on serving or providing alcohol to your guests, you are required to apply for a Special Occasion Permit from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.

Most houses and backyards aren't meant for 150 people. There might not be enough space or enough facilities like restrooms to handle those numbers. Most likely, you'll want to keep your guest list under 100 people. A backyard usually works well for a wedding ceremony, but it might not be perfect for the reception.

Intoxication, disorderly conduct and unlaw- ful gambling are not permitted. Encouraging immoderate consumption of alcohol is not permitted (for example, drink- ing contests or games). Non-alcoholic beverages must be available. Alcohol sold or served under the permit may not be removed from the permit area.

Special Occasion Permits (SOP) are for the sale and/or service of beverage alcohol at special occasions such as weddings, receptions, public events, etc. An SOP is needed anytime alcohol is offered for sale or served anywhere other than in a licensed establishment or a private place.

A backyard wedding reception inevitably requires bringing in enough rentals to throw a party. Your must-have items are tables, chairs, dinnerware, napkins, table linens, place settings, barware, portable bathrooms and a tent. Rent enough chairs so everyone can be seated for the ceremony.

Private Places A company´s private boardroom is an example of a private place. However, if alcohol is being sold in a private place, a SOP is always required unless the event is already being held under the authority of a Catering Endorsement.
