IT Act 2000 Section 5 of the Act gives legal recognition to digital signatures. Digital signatures have been legalised in India since 2000. However, since then, hardly any provisions of the Act have been implemented, except for the appointment of the Certifying Authority which took place in 2001.

Acceptable electronic signature methods include: A typed name typed on a signature block. A scanned or digitized image of a handwritten signature that's attached to an electronic record. A handwritten signature input onto an electronic signature pad.

Digital signatures are a subset of electronic signatures. The word digital signature only connotes a particular technical framework for electronic signing. All types of electronic signatures ? whether digital signature or not -have identical legal validity under Section 5 of the IT Act.

A licensed Certifying Authority (CA) issues the digital signature. Certifying Authority (CA) means a person who has been granted a license to issue a digital signature certificate under Section 24 of the Indian IT-Act 2000.

A Digital Signature Certificate is an electronic document which uses a digital signature to bind together a public key with an identity ? information such as the name of a person or an organization, their address, and so forth. The certificate can be used to verify that a public key belongs to the individual.

The ESIGN Act: Allows electronically executed agreements to be presented as evidence in court. Prevents denial of legal effect, validity, or enforceability of an electronically signed document solely because it is in electronic form.

For some jobs, the plans must have a Virginia licensed architect or professional engineer, also known as a Registered Design Professional (RDP), sign and seal the plans. Residential plans are not required to be drawn by an RDP, but if they are, they must be signed and sealed.

Virginia requires that all engineering work be performed by a licensed engineer and that those documents be sealed with the engineer's Virginia stamp. The Virginia Engineer Seal must be a Rubber Stamp or Self Inking Stamp. The size of the Virginia Engineer Stamp or Seal must be 2" in diameter.
