The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) is a bureau under the Department of the Treasury.

In its simplest terms, TTB formula approval is required when an alcoholic beverage is produced using non-traditional methods or ingredients. The TTB requires formula approval so that it can: Verify that ingredients used meet FDA requirements and are considered safe. Assign an appropriate tax classification.

If you do not timely pay your taxes, TTB will assess a penalty of 1/2 of 1% of your unpaid taxes for each month or part of a month after the due date that the tax is not paid. This penalty cannot be more than 25% of your unpaid tax.
