A line break is to be used for the initial opening of a process system (temporary or permanent) or equipment other than by designed access. A designed access may be a sample port, tank lid or inspections doors/panels.

Line breaking means the intentional opening of a pipe, line, or duct that is or has been carrying flammable, corrosive, or toxic material, an inert gas, or any fluid at a volume, pressure, or temperature capable of causing injury.

Line or First Break Opening - The opening of a line or a section of a line, a vessel, or other equipment such as, a pum that contained or contains a hazardous material (as clear prior to initiating work). Visual Verification ? A visual confirmation that piping or piece of equipment is free of a hazardous material.

Cold Work Permit Cold work permits are used in hazardous maintenance work that does not involve ?hot work?. Cold work permits are issued when there is no reasonable source of ignition, and when all contact with harmful substances has been eliminated or appropriate precautions taken.

Simple rules-of-thumb for line-breaking The articles (a, an, the) are never followed by a line break. An adjective should stay together with what it is describing, but two or more adjectives can sometimes be separated with commas, and then it is possible (though not preferable) to break a line after one of the commas.

The entry supervisor must cancel entry permits when an assignment is completed or when new conditions exist.
