After it's signed As is protocol, it must be discussed and negotiated with the signing party beforehand before making any changes to a contract. If this has not happened, then it is, first and foremost, illegal to alter a signed document.

So long as it is clear what the correct date was and the error doesn't make the contract ambiguous, it is binding. For example, if a contract signed today (7/3/2023) said I would watch your dog for seven days, starting 7/4/2023 and ending 7/10/2022, it is clear to everyone the second date should have been 2023.

It is not illegal to alter a contract once it has been signed. However, it must be materially changed, meaning that if an important part of the contract is altered by the change, it must be made by mutual consent of both parties.

While a contract does not have to be dated in order to be valid and enforceable, it is a good idea to do so. Dating a contract will help you to positively identify it later if you need to and will help you place it in its proper chronological context.

It is possible to change the effective date of a contract by amending the contract. However, to do so you would need to follow the usual processes involved in contract amendment.

Date of Contract means the date on which both the parties have signed the Contract Agreement or any other date mentioned in the Contract/Letter of Award, as the effective date of Contract, whichever is earlier.

In the most formal writing, such as contracts, invitations, plaques and presentation documents, it is usual to write out the entire date in words. Days and months are capitalized, but dates and years are not. . . . on this sixteenth day of June, nineteen hundred and ninety-seven . . .
