If you do not have your deed, then you can get a recorded copy of it at the Register of Deeds; and a recorded copy is just as good as the original. You can come in person, send us a request by mail, or search online. Search and copy fees will apply.

An original RP-5217 form must accompany all deeds and correction deeds upon filing with the Recording Officer. A filing fee is also required. Pursuant to Section 8017 of Civil Practice Law and Rules, the state and counties, and agencies and officers thereof are exempt from this fee.

In order for a deed to be valid and enforceable, it must be in writing; describe with specificity the property conveyed; specify the names of the grantor and grantee; be signed; be sealed; be acknowledged; and be delivered.
