Link Required Field Release For Free

The Epic Link custom field is a relational link to determine an issue's parent epic, and is different from the issue linking functionality. It is available to all issue types, except for the sub-task type, since such type of issues can't be assigned to an epic.

Click the Add validator button. Select the Field Required Validator option. Click the 'Add' button. For Fields required for this transition:, select the custom field you want to be required.

Switch to the Diagram mode, click on the Create transition, and then click on the Validators link: Click on the Add Validator button, and from the list of Validators that shows up, select the 'Fields Required' validator, and then choose the Epic Link field as the required field.

Solution Go to your company-managed project, Project settings > Workflows. Click the pencil icon to edit the workflow. Click on the Diagram tab and then click on the 'Create' transition line and click Validators from the pop-up screen: Click 'Add validator' and then select "Field Required Validator"

Because Epic Link is a locked field, it is not possible to do this by modifying field behaviour in a field configuration. You can however make the Epic Link field required by using a Field Required workflow validator.

Currently, the epic-link connects issues from the base level (containing stories, bugs, tasks) to epics, and the parent-link connects epics to issues at higher levels for those who have Jira Software Cloud Premium.

I got it! You have to go to your backlog screen. Click on the EPICS tab (it's shown in vertical mode, you have to turn your head to see it lol) Find your epic & click on it. Edit the name straight on that screen. It will update only the Link/Epic Name field - the Summary remains the same.

To make a field mandatory when used through Jira's user interface, click the Required link associated with that field. The text Required appears next to the field's name. Hidden fields cannot be set as required. To make a field optional, click the Optional link associated with that field.
