After your statement has been filed, publishing is required under the following circumstances (Business and Professions Code 17917): A new Fictitious Business Name Statement filing. A renewal or re-filing of Fictitious Business Name Statement with changes.

The FBN Statement expires five years from the date of filing, unless it is abandoned sooner. You must re-file every 5 years, paying the current fees, even if there are no changes. You are not required to republish a renewal if the information remains the same.

The purpose of a Fictitious Name Permit (FNP) is to allow a licensed physician and surgeon or podiatrist to practice under a name other than their own.

Fictitious Name Permits (?FNP?) are not the same as Fictitious Business Names (sometimes also colloquially referred to as ?Doing-Business-As? or ?DBA?). FNPs are required by the Medical Board of California (?MBC?), whereas DBAs are required to be filed with the applicable county(ies). Each has distinct criteria.

A sole proprietor who wishes to practice under a fictitious name must register with, and be approved by, the California Board of Accountancy (CBA) before practicing and holding out to the public.
