Whenever signing a business contract, use your complete legal business name. If you have incorporated, your business is its own entity and should be treated as such in the contract. Your legal name as an individual should not be listed.

Write the name of the contract at the top of the page. Follow with the names or company names of all parties, in this format: This agreement is between ____ and ____. Contracts involving a business should include the business' full legal name, including descriptions such as ?Ltd.? or ?Inc.?

Write explicitly what one party is promising to deliver and what the other agrees to pay or do in exchange. If services are part of the deal, state what services will be performed. Specify who will perform the services, for whom, where, when, for how long and for what consideration.

Choosing a contract title The title of a contract should simply reflect the nature or central purpose of the agreement, indicating whether it is a licence, confidentiality agreement or other contract.

Simply list the page number of the contract and the relevant section. In some circumstances, you may need to directly quote the contract in a letter instead of just making a reference. Quoting a contract can be useful if the contract includes complex language or is very long.
