Equations can appear in the Experimental Procedure question if they are relevant to understanding the steps you took to achieve your results. Equations may also appear in the Results and Discussion section when you address the impact of theory on your experiment.

Equations should be numbered consecutively beginning with (1) to the end of the paper, including any appendices. The number should be enclosed in parentheses and set flush right in the column on the same line as the equation. It is this number that should be used when referring to equations within the text.

An equation combines two expressions connected by an equal sign (?=?). These two expressions on either side of the equals sign are called the ?left-hand side? and ?right-hand side? of the equation. We generally assume the right-hand side of an equation is zero.
