All new saddles are fitted with a medium gullet (black) at point of manufacture. If your gullet has been changed after purchase the colours are sized as follows: Yellow ? Narrow, Green ? Medium Narrow, Black ? Medium, Blue ? Medium wide, Red ? Wide, and White is Extra wide.

It's recommended by the Society of Master Saddlers (SMS) that saddles should be checked at least twice a year. However, some horses change shape more often, due to fitness, condition and age and would obviously require more regular visits.

The EASY-CHANGE Gullet System is exclusive to Bates Saddles and Wintec Saddles and offers a means of altering the width of the Elastiflex tree in your saddle.

Most Wintec saddles feature a changeable gullet, however depending on the age this may require a specialist saddler to unstitch your saddle and change.

Place your hand into the space between the saddle and your horse's wither, using your fingers to measure the vertical space. The gap should fit no more than two fingers to two and a half fingers. If three or more fingers fit, the gullet is too narrow. If fewer than two fingers fit, the gullet is too wide.

Undo the velcro along the length of the panel. Insert the needed shims into the panel, ensuring that the logo faces towards the tree of the saddle. Make sure that the shims are aligned with the straight edge along the edge of the chamber. Fasten the velcro, making sure it is smooth all the way along the panel.
