Note: You can only delete the page breaks that you've added to your documents. You can't delete the page breaks that Word adds automatically as text flows from one page to the next.

Select Home > Show/Hide . This will display non-printing characters?paragraph markers, section breaks, page breaks, etc. ?that you may want to see while you're working on your document. Double-click the page break so that it's selected, and then press Delete.

Move a page break On the View menu, click Page Break Preview. Rest the pointer on the page break line until the pointer changes to a. , and then drag the page break line to a new location. Note: When you move an automatic page break, it changes to a manual page break. Manual page breaks are not adjusted automatically.

Ensure Track Changes is off You can't delete section breaks when Track Changes is turned on. To turn off Track Changes: Click the Review tab in the Ribbon.

On the Home tab, in the Paragraph group, click Show/Hide to show all formatting marks including page breaks. Double-click the page break to select it, then press Delete. Click Show/Hide again to hide the remaining formatting marks in the document.

Add a section break Go to Layout > Breaks. Choose the type of section break you want: Next Page Section break starts the new section on the following page. Continuous Section break starts the new section on the same page.

The reason it would be greyed out is you are trying to insert it into a place where page breaks are not possible or allowed.

The different kinds of section breaks include next page, continuous, even page, and odd page breaks.

Change a section break Click or tap in the section break you want to change. Go to Layout and select the Page Setup launcher button . Select the Layout tab. Select a new section type from the Section Start drop down list. Select OK.

Click where you want to insert the section break. On the Insert menu, point to Break, then click Section Break (Next Page). This will insert the section break, and text following the section break will begin on a new page.
