If your work permit has expired, or if it will expire within the next 6 months, you can renew it by simply filing a new Form I-765. You will also need to pay a filing fee (as with the original application), unless you've applied for a fee waiver and have received approval.

The employing agency may request renewal of the PIP if an individual does not pass all subtests of the subject-matter examinations. Once the subject-matter competence requirement is satisfied, the individual may be employed on an NCLB compliant document such as a university or district intern credential.

To qualify to be hired as an intern the student must have a job offer from an eligible district, have passed a BSR exam option, have fulfilled the US Constitution requirement and be subject matter competent in the subject in which they will be assigned to teach.

Individuals holding intern credentials that are not inactivated are entitled to only one one- year extension if supported by an approved program sponsor and employing agency. The one-year extension may be requested by a program sponsor at the time the initial intern credential expires or at a later date.

Intern Credentials are valid for two calendar years. Employment is restricted to a specific school agency. A onetime, one-year extension by appeal is available at the request of the Commission-approved university intern program when an educator fails to complete the program in the time allotted due to a hardship.

If requirements for the clear credential are not completed before the expiration of the preliminary, the holder will be unable to teach in California's public schools with that credential until those requirements are met and the document is renewed.
