The good news is that candidates withdraw from job applications all the time, and if done with respect and promptness, a withdrawal doesn't have to have any negative consequences for your overall career.

You may only submit an application to a college once. If you would like to apply again to a college or see if they will use your previously submitted application for a different start term, please contact the college directly.

Candidates can choose to resubmit their application after withdrawing.

'Application closed' means candidate(s) have already been shortlisted for the position. Interview process for shortlisted candidates is mostly in process. 'Requisition closed' would mean the final candidate has been offered and he/she has accepted the offer.

In fact, if you are certain the job is not right for you, withdrawing your application is a favor to the company. It saves them time and effort and allows the company to focus on candidates who are still interested in the position. Employers would prefer to avoid making job offers that are rejected.

You can send an email or letter expressing appreciation for the employer's time and consideration, with the option to include a reason such as how the position wasn't a good fit. Or you can call the hiring manager and advise them that you've had a change in circumstances.

Simplistically, a status of a candidate when marked as Not Selected means that he is no longer under consideration for that particular role. Even if the selected person rejects the offer, then the next person who would be considered would have a status as Under review.
