File an Appeal and Request a Hearing. If the administrative review determines that the parking ticket was correctly issued, you can file for an appeal and request a hearing. A judge will then review your case and officially determine the validity of the parking ticket and whether or not you have to pay.

If you don't pay your ticket -- or arrange to dispute it in court -- the city will eventually send someone out to hand-deliver you a court summons. If you then don't show up in court, it's technically possible that a warrant could be issued for your arrest.

All fines must be paid before you can renew your vehicle registration. A parking ticket issued on a private lot, by a private company, has different rules. Failing to pay fines can lead to debt collections penalties and legal judgments, including wage garnishment and damage to your credit rating.

Once a parking ticket is issued and goes unpaid after 10 days, a final notice goes out. If another 10 to 20 days pass and the ticket is still unpaid, a letter is sent to the registered owner. If it remains unpaid, it goes to court summons.

The registered vehicle owner or operator may contest a parking citation online, in person or by mail. Citations contested online shall be within 21 calendar days from the date of the citation using the court's online system.

There has been a procedural impropriety by the authority. The vehicle was taken without the owner's consent. The authority do not have the right to issue penalties in the place where the vehicle was parked (for example, in a car park). If the vehicle was removed, no PCN was fixed to the vehicle or handed to the driver.
