Distribute Required Field Resolution For Free

This work around worked for me. Remove the Resolution field from all views but the Closed screen. Remove the default value for the Resolution field. Set a Validator up so that the Resolution field must be changed when transitioning to Closed.

A JIRA issue can be resolved in a number of ways. The default resolution statuses are: Fixed, Duplicate, Won't Fix, Incomplete, and Cannot Reproduce. However, new resolution statuses may be added. The resolution status of issues is on a JIRA Global level, which means that one configuration is used for all projects.

Jira considers that the lifecycle of an issue has come to an end when the "Resolution" field has a value. Any issue that has the Resolution field set is treated by Jira applications as "resolved". The Issue Navigator displays "Unresolved" when no resolution is set for an issue.

You don't, there is no way to set the Resolution field to not be required. Jira is hard coded for the Resolution field to always be required when it appears on a screen. Is it possible to change? Probably, but it is not supported and is likely to have negative impact to the instance.

The Resolution field is typically cleared by setting a post function in the workflow transition you'd like to have this occur.

Add, edit, and delete a resolution Select > Issues. Under ISSUE ATTRIBUTES, select Resolutions. Fill in the form below the existing resolutions. You can edit the name and description at any time.

Resolution is a system Field and it's always mandatory. You cannot make it optional from Configuration scheme. You need to remove it from create/edit screen and try creating a task. Try removing it and create a new task.

Click the new loop transition to display its properties, and click Post functions. Click Add post function. select Update Issue Field and click Add. select the Resolution field and the desired target Field Value, and click Add.

When you make a field required, people must enter an answer to the field in order to submit their entry. When someone tries to submit an entry without filling out a required field, we highlight the problematic fields and display an error message to let them know the field is required.

Click the Insert tab and then click the Quick Parts dropdown in the Text group. From the dropdown, choose Fields (Figure A). The resulting dialog lists the Word fields in the Field Names list, which you can filter using the Categories list.
