Display Footnote Notification For Free

Add a footnote Click where you want to add the footnote. Click Insert > Insert Footnote. Word inserts a reference mark in the text and adds the footnote mark at the bottom of the page.

Footnotes are a useful tool in academic documents as a reference to books or other documents. You can also use footnotes as a way to apply a note to something you've said without interrupting the flow of your text. Microsoft Word allows you to apply footnotes to any page in your document.

When in Draft mode, you need to click on Show Notes in the Footnotes section of the References tab of the ribbon and then select the Footnote Separator from the dropdown at the top of the footnotes pane and format the paragraph to remove the space before it.

The Footnote and EndNote dialog box will be displayed. Towards the bottom of the dialog box, where it says Numbering, click on the dropdown. Options include Continuous, Restart each section or Restart each page.

In those instances, Word may not renumber the footnotes until you resolve all the outstanding changes by accepting them or rejecting them. Another possibility is that you have somehow changed the properties of some of the footnotes so that their numbering is no longer continuous.

If you want your footnotes and endnotes to be numbered continuously from the beginning of your document to the end, select the ?Continuous? option. If you'd prefer to have your notes numbered by chapter or section, select the ?Restart Each Section? option. Or select ?Restart Each Page? to number your notes by page.

To convert all footnotes to endnotes: At the bottom of a page, right-click the footnote text area, click Note Options, and then click Convert. Finally, click Convert all footnotes to endnotes.

Changing the Way Footnotes Are Numbered Make sure the References tab is selected on the ribbon. Click the small downward-pointing arrow at the lower-right corner of the Footnotes group.Make sure the Footnotes radio button is selected. Change the Start At value to reflect where you want Word to start numbering.

Remove a footnote If you want to delete the footnote (that's at the bottom of the page), delete the number ?1? in the body. When you do that, the footnote itself disappears. Another way you can do this is to right-click the footnote at the bottom of the page, select Go to Footnote and then delete the number there.
