Add a section break Select where you want a new section to begin. Go to Layout > Breaks. Choose the type of section break you want: Next Page Section break starts the new section on the following page. Continuous Section break starts the new section on the same page.

To insert a page break, press Ctrl+Enter.

It is important to understand the difference between a page break and a section break. A page break simply pushes any information after that page break onto the next page; a section break essentially splits your document into different parts to allow you to apply complex formatting to your document.

Sections are your main topics, while pages may go into more detail on those topics. Think of your module like a binder. Sections are the tabs, while pages are the pieces of paper behind the tabs with all the information on them.

Remove a page break from a Word document On the Home tab, in the Paragraph group, click Show/Hide to show all formatting marks including page breaks. Double-click the page break to select it, then press Delete. Click Show/Hide again to hide the remaining formatting marks in the document.

Choose a break type. ?To start on a new page, click Page break. To start a new section on the same page, click Section break (continuous).

Sometimes, you may wonder why you can't get rid of manual page breaks. You cannot remove manual page breaks when Track Changes is turned on. To turn off Track Changes: Go to the Review tab in the Ribbon.

Section breaks enable you to split a document into several sections, enabling you to apply different formatting and layouts to each section. For instance, having two sections in a document enables one section to have portrait orientation and the other to have landscape orientation.
