Analyze the job advertisement or job description to identify and define the employer's key-need words. Prioritize and use these words in the employer's order of importance or presentation. Utilize the key-need in your cover letter and highlight them by using all-caps and bolding or underlining.

When writing a cover letter, specific information needs to be included: a contact section, a salutation, an introduction to the hiring manager, information on why you are qualified for the job, a closing, and your signature.

Your cover letter should complement, not duplicate your resume. Don't bring up your weaknesses. The cover letter is the time to highlight your strengths, so highlight your strengths to frame the positive. Save this for the weakness question you may be asked during the interview.

Aside from your name, which should be a little bigger, the font size throughout your resume should be the same size to ensure readability. Rather than using font size for emphasis throughout your resume, use bolding, italics, and all-capssparingly, of course.

If computer skills are important for the job you're applying for, you can also use your cover letter to highlight them. You should use the second and third main paragraphs to show how your skills match those needed by the employer. Don't simply list your computer skills in your cover letter, it needs to be engaging.

Introduce yourself. mention the job (or kind of job) you're applying for (or looking for) show that your skills and experience match the skills and experience needed to do the job. encourage the reader to read your resume.
