Concatenate Footnote Log For Free

Under Reference type, select Footnote. Under Insert reference to, select Footnote number. At the bottom of the Cross-reference dialogue box, you will see a large area titled For which footnote. Listed in this area is every existing footnote in your document.

To cite the same source and page number as you just cited, write ?Ibid.? on its own. When you are citing the same source, but different page numbers, write ?Ibid.? followed by a comma and the relevant page number(s). Ibid. Ibid., 36.

The first footnote contains the full citation. Subsequent footnotes from the same item can be shortened to the author or author and title. Use the same rules for footnotes for online sources. Use a shortened form for the second footnote.

When a reference must be repeated, a new footnote with the identical text should be inserted.

The abbreviation ibid (meaning 'in the same place') can be used to repeat a citation in the immediately preceding footnote. Never italicize or capitalise ibid. In the above example, ibid is followed by a page number (6), which means 'in the same work, but this time on page 6'.

If you refer to the same source again in your paper, you do not need to repeat the same full citation. Instead, you provide a shortened version of the footnote, which includes enough information for the reader to find the full citation in your bibliography or in an earlier footnote.

Never reuse a number - use a new number for each reference, even if you have used that reference previously. Use a shortened form examples for sources you refer to more than once. To cite multiple sources in a single note, separate the two citations with a semicolon. Never use two note numbers at the end of a sentence.

Do not place multiple footnotes at the same point in your text (e.g. 1, 2, 3). If you need to cite multiple sources in one sentence, you can combine the citations into one footnote, separated by semicolons: 1. Hulme, Romanticism and Classicism; Eliot, The Waste Land; Woolf, Modern Fiction, 11.
