You cannot make it an optional field, there are built-in functionality in Jira that uses this field, so to make it "optional", do not add it to a screen besides the view one, and use post functions in your workflow to set it.

Solution Go to the project settings > Workflow; Edit the desired workflow; Find the transition that will reopen the issue and click on it; Navigate to the pop-up and click on Post Functions, then click Add post Function; Add the Clear Field Value event as a post function; Select the Resolution field and click add;

This work around worked for me. Remove the Resolution field from all views but the Closed screen. Remove the default value for the Resolution field. Set a Validator up so that the Resolution field must be changed when transitioning to Closed.

Switch to the Diagram mode, click on the Create transition, and then click on the Validators link: Click on the Add Validator button, and from the list of Validators that shows up, select the 'Fields Required' validator, and then choose the Epic Link field as the required field.

The "Resolution" field is an important feature in Jira. It specifies the reason an issue is closed and removes the need of having multiple statuses with the purpose of stating why the issue is closed, thus capturing important data for your team while reducing the time you have to manage your workflow.

Open any impacted issue in the Jira issue view, and then transition them using the 'Fix Resolution' transition. This will reset the field to the desired resolution for all these issues. Alternatively, you can use a Bulk Operation to edit all the impacted issues and transition them using the 'Fix Resolution' transition.

Click on the gear icon then Setup > Object Manager. Choose the object > Fields & Relationships. Select the custom field that you will make required. Click on Edit and under General Options select Required. Click on Save.

Resolution Set Using a POST Function Locate your Workflow: > Issues > Workflows. Click Edit under Actions for your workflow. Select your "Done" transition, and Click POST Functions. Click 'Add POST Function > Select 'Update Issue Field' Select Resolution for Issue Field and the appropriate Field Value.
