Bates College, a highly selective liberal arts college in Maine, has been test-optional since 1984, but has always required all students to submit their test scores upon matriculation to allow them to compare ?submitters? to ?non-submitters? for research purposes.

The selectivity of applicants for undergraduate admissions to Bates is considered highly selective. Many accepted applicants score in the top-range on the SAT or ACT exam, as well as having a solid high school GPA and number of college prep courses.

Bates College admissions is most selective with an acceptance rate of 17%. Half the applicants admitted to Bates College have an SAT score between 1260 and 1470 or an ACT score of 30 and 34. However, one quarter of admitted applicants achieved scores above these ranges and one quarter scored below these ranges.

Music, theater, art, dance, film, and creative writing supplements may be included in your application portfolio. Supplementary materials can be uploaded after submitting your application to Bates and receiving a PIN for online access to your application status portal.

But, consistent with The Bluebook, the first citation should make it very clear what is being referenced, such as (Bates Jones000001) or (Bates d123-002), and subsequent consecutive cites should follow the usual practice of Id. followed by the page number, such as (Id. 000017) or (Id. -017).

And Bates Numbers typically have a prefix or suffix. For example, a paralegal might label the first page of Mr. Smith's case file with 0001/SMI. The first part of the series tracks the page number, while the second element remains constant and represents the client's last name.
