WORKING PERMITS: Every minor 14 through 17 years of age must have a working permit unless otherwise stated in Chapter 4109.

§ 570.36, through the WECEP, permits the employment of 14- and 15-year-olds during school hours, for as many as 3 hours on a school day, and for as many as 23 hours in a school week. § 570.37 allows for work hour provisions for certain 14- and 15-year-old students participating in a WSP.

Virginia law requires students aged 14 and 15 to obtain a work permit prior to beginning a job. Parents can now electronically access, complete, and download the required forms. The application requires submission of two documents: a Permission for Employment form and an Employer Intent to Employ form.

Fortunately, in Texas, minors as young as 14 are able to seek employment. There is no requirement for a work permit, the minor just needs to find a job. As the federal government does not require work permits, minors living in Texas do not have to obtain one prior to seeking employment in the state.

Do child workers require a work permit: Though a work permit is not required, Texas does have a certificate of age document that is available to children to prove their age to an employer. Child actors or performers under the age of 14 must obtain a permit.

Work certificates are required for children 14 to 15 years of age before they start employment at any job (other than in the entertainment industry) during the school year. Work certificates are required regardless of where a child attends school (public school, private school, charter school, home school).

Go to the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry website where you can fill out the forms online or download & print the 2 forms necessary to apply for an Employment Certificate. It is much faster to do this online than it is to print and send in. You can't work until you get your work permit.
