You can use the hotkey Ctrl + A to select all footnotes at once in a Word document. Please do as follows. Click to put your cursor at any footnote of your document, press the Alt + A keys simultaneously, then all footnotes in current document are selected immediately.

Convert all footnotes or all endnotes On the Insert menu, click Footnote. Click Convert, click Convert all footnotes to endnotes or Convert all endnotes to footnotes, and then click OK.

Add footnotes and endnotes Click where you want to add the footnote. Click Insert > Insert Footnote. Word inserts a reference mark in the text and adds the footnote mark at the bottom of the page. Type the footnote text.

Insert footnotes and endnotes Click where you want to reference to the footnote or endnote. On the References tab, select Insert Footnote or Insert Endnote. Enter what you want in the footnote or endnote. Return to your place in the document by double-clicking the number or symbol at the beginning of the note.

Using the Notes drop-down list at the top of the Footnotes pane, choose Footnote Continuation Notice. The current notice appears in the window. (Note that the notice might be originally blank, so you might not see anything in the window.) Change the notice as desired.

To change the formatting of the footnote numbers, select the Footnotes Reference Style. If you want to change the formatting of the footnote text at the bottom of the page, select the Footnote Text Style. Click Modify, and then change the formatting options (font, size, and so on).

Word automatically generates a bibliography from the sources you used to write your paper. Each time you add a new citation to your document, Word adds that source so that it appears in the bibliography in the proper format, such as MLA, APA, and Chicago-style.

In order to update the cross-references, place your cursor in a footnote and select the text of all footnotes by pressing Ctrl A. Once the footnote text is selected, press F9.

To search for a footnote, follow these steps: Press Ctrl+F to display the Find tab of the Find and Replace dialog box. (See Figure 1.) In the Find What box, enter the text for which you want to search. To search for a footnote mark, enter ^f.Set other searching parameters, as desired. Click on Find Next.
