Inserting Duplicate Footnotes using Same Sequence Number. Insert the first footnote: On the Reference tab, in the Footnotes group, click Insert Footnote. The footnote number is added to document at the insertion point. Enter the footnote text.

Insert your first (primary) footnote as normal. Position the insertion point in the document where you want the secondary reference to the footnote. Choose Cross-reference from the Insert menu. Word displays the Cross-reference dialog box.

The first way of doing a repeated reference is when the footnotes are next to each other. For this, you use ibid (a Latin word, meaning 'in the same place'). You should never capitalize or italicize ibid. In the example below, I have referenced a book by Raz in footnote 28.

Do not place multiple footnotes at the same point in your text (e.g. 1, 2, 3). If you need to cite multiple sources in one sentence, you can combine the citations into one footnote, separated by semicolons: 1. Hulme, Romanticism and Classicism; Eliot, The Waste Land; Woolf, Modern Fiction, 11.

To cite multiple sources of the same kind in the same footnote, put the sources in chronological order with the oldest first, separating them with a semi-colon.

Select the 'Insert Footnote' button and enter the footnote information. Place the cursor where the second footnote needs to be placed. Select the 'References' ribbon. Select 'Cross-reference'

Use of ibid. "Ibid." (the abbreviation for "ibidem", meaning "in the same place") refers to the work cited in the preceding footnote or to the preceding work within the same footnote.
