Businesses should not use invoices and receipts interchangeably. You should use invoices to inform a customer that a payment is due and receipts as proof of payment.

When multiple tasks are linked to a project, you can collate and merge task invoices into one single invoice. This is suitable for companies who have demand maintenance service contracts that are tracked and invoiced as individual jobs but the invoices are collated into one invoice at regular intervals.

Most companies use a combination of receipts and invoices to record transactions for themselves and their customers, and it's likely that you'll have to do the same. Although these two documents have similar functions, they are incredibly different from each other.

An invoice is not a receipt and the key difference between the two is that an invoice is issued before payment as a way of requesting compensation for goods or services, while receipts are issued after payment as proof of the transaction. An invoice tracks the sale of a business's goods or services.

Is an invoice proof of purchase? Although invoices may be used as proof of having requested goods or services, or as proof of an outstanding formal agreement between a buyer and a seller, they do not provide proof that a service has actually been paid for.

Merge Invoices Menu for merge invoices in Accounting module. Select various invoices that belongs to same partner and same type. Click to Action menu >> Click Merge Invoices. Wizard for merge invoices. select date and click on Merge invoice.

The difference lies in when they are issued and how they are used for accounting purposes. While an invoice is raised to get payment from the customer, a receipt is issued after receiving the payment from the customer. Typically, a receipt is issued only after the customer pays in full.

Here's how: Go to the Sales menu and proceed to the Invoices tab. Look for the invoice and click on it. Select Edit invoice in the lower-right hand corner. Add the products or service items from the second invoice. Click Save and send.

The consolidated invoice combines charges of multiple subscriptions into a single transaction and hence the invoice is paid by a single payment method (for example, paid in full by credit card, ACH, or direct deposits). Consider this example of multiple subscriptions of a single customer.

To merge invoices together, use the advanced invoice search to filter invoices by customer, then select the invoices you need to combine from the list and press the Merge Invoices link that appears in the checkbox at the top of the invoices list.
