California has some of the nation's strongest laws regulating the sale of ammunition, and in 2019 became the first state in the nation to require a point-of-sale background check to buy ammunition.

When using quality magazines with quality ammunition, stored and maintained properly, you can leave them loaded as long as you want to without any reservation.

Ammunition is prohibited in carry-on baggage, but may be transported in checked baggage. Firearm magazines and ammunition clips, whether loaded or empty, must be securely boxed or included within a hard-sided case containing an unloaded firearm.

Sealing a bloody or wet bullet in an air-tight package can cause corrosion of identifiable detail on the bullet. Wrap in soft tissue paper and seal in a labeled paper envelope or box. Package each bullet separately. DO NOT MARK the bullet or allow it to be marked.

Ammo can be displayed and bought at gun shows, but it must be locked away in a sealed container unless a vendor is actively showing it to a buyer. Ammo sale regulations are the same at a gun show as any other placebuyers must have undergone a background check and vendors must be licensed.
