Applicants may apply to replace their current regular alpha-numeric licence plate with a conservation plate, at any time, for a donation fee of $60.50 and an administration fee of $26.10. Applicants do not have to wait for their normal bi-annual plate renewal.

Custom licence plates have been available in Nova Scotia since 1989, with ARLENE being the first plate issued. There's a $107.35 fee to initially apply for a custom licence plate and then a $30.05 annual fee to renew the plate.
