What is the difference between Helm and Helmfile? Helm is a tool for templating and sharing Kubernetes manifests for your applications, while a Helmfile is a declarative specification for deploying Helm charts that adds functionality to Helm.

A Helm chart packages together YAML files and templates that can be used to generate additional configuration files based on parametrized values. This allows you to customize configuration files to suit different environments and to create reusable configurations for use across multiple deployments.

In Helm, one chart may depend on any number of other charts. These dependencies can be dynamically linked using the dependencies field in Chart.yaml or brought in to the charts/ directory and managed manually.

There are two different ways to add dependency charts to parent charts: Listing all the dependencies inside the Chart. yaml file and helm will download the dependencies and store them in the 'charts/' directory. Manually populate the dependency chart inside the 'charts/' directory.

There are 2 Helm repository types defined by the HelmRepository API: Helm HTTP/S repository, which defines a Source to produce an Artifact for a Helm repository index YAML ( index. yaml ). OCI Helm repository, which defines a source that does not produce an Artifact.

The required function allows you to declare a particular values entry as required for template rendering. If the value is empty, the template rendering will fail with a user submitted error message.

Yaml file is a simple file for listing your dependencies. The name field is the name of the chart you want. The version field is the version of the chart you want. The repository field is the full URL to the chart repository.

The chart specifies the repository from which to download the dependency. Once you have declared your dependencies, you can them using the 'helm dependency update' command. This command will fetch all the dependencies listed in the 'Chart. yaml' file and store them in a charts/ directory within the chart.

An umbrella chart references the version of the Helm chart itself and not the underlying version of the container image. This means that any change to the image version will result in chart modifications to the individual component charts.
