Line Break charts are most commonly known as "three-line break" charts. This is because once there are three consecutive lines in the same direction, the Close must "break" the most recent three lines in order to draw a line in the opposite direction.

The general rules for calculating a Line Break chart are:If the price exceeds the previous line's high price, a new white line is drawn.If the price falls below the previous line's low price, a new black line is drawn.If the price does not rise above nor fall below the previous line, nothing is drawn.

We will right click on the Primary Vertical axis in the chart and select the Format Axis to open the Format Axis dialog box. Next, we will click Number in the left bar and type >=5000;;; in the Format Code box and click on the Add button to close the dialog box.

A Line Break Chart takes the current closing price and compares it to the closing price of a previous line. The most common Number of Lines setting is 3. What this means is that the closing price of the current line is compared to the closing price of the line 2 period's ago.

It is a difference between two closing prices. A body of a candle in candlestick chat is a difference between open and close. In Line-break charts, body is a Line. Line of a Line-break chart is a difference between current closing price and a previous closing price.

The x-intercept is the point, (a,0) , where the graph crosses the x-axis . The x-intercept occurs when y is zero. The y-intercept is the point, (0,b) , where the graph crosses the y-axis .

The simplest way to trade using 3 line break charts, is to wait until the market has made at least 3 lines in the same direction. Then wait until a reversal line has formed and enter in the direction of the reversal. This is the start of a new potential trend and we can get in nice and early.

Three Line Break charts show a series of vertical white and black lines; the white lines represent rising prices, while the black lines portray falling prices. Prices continue in the same direction until a reversal is warranted. A reversal occurs when the closing price exceeds the high or low of the prior two lines.

In the opening Change Chart Type dialog box, go to the Choose the chart type and axis for your data series section, click the For Broken Y axis box, and select the Scatter with Straight Line from the drop down list, and click the OK button.

Double-click on the axis in the graph to open the Axis dialog, then go to the Breaks tab. Select 2 in the Number of Breaks drop-down list. And then you can specify other options for the breaks.
