To associate a resolution with a status: Go to the relevant workflow. Click 'Edit' Click the transition to the status you would like to add a resolution to.

This work around worked for me. Remove the Resolution field from all views but the Closed screen. Remove the default value for the Resolution field. Set a Validator up so that the Resolution field must be changed when transitioning to Closed.

Select the Field Required Validator option and click add. Choose your required field, and click add. Then, click on edit to edit the transition. In the transition view field, select the screen that was created.

Now, to make a field required you can do it a couple of different ways. One is to add a validator to the workflow transition. If you want it required to create an issue, it should be placed on the Create transition in the workflow. Choose Add validator and then Field Required Validator.

Select the transition to the "Closed" status. Under Options, click on Validators. Click the Add validator button. Select the Field Required Validator option.
