WORKING PERMITS: Every minor 14 through 17 years of age must have a working permit unless otherwise stated in Chapter 4109.

While minors as young as age 14 are able to work in the state of Ohio, youth under the age of 18 are required to obtain a working permit, also known in Ohio as an age and schooling certificate, prior to doing so. The employer should not allow a minor to begin employment without their providing this document.

During summer months when school is not in session, 16 and 17 year old minors are not required to obtain work permits, provided that the employer maintains proof of age and a signed statement from their parent or guardian consent to their proposed employment.

Age certificate or ?certificate of age? means the form authorized by the Division of Labor for the employment of a 16 or 17 year old minor that is issued by the superintendent of schools for the purpose of certifying the minor's age and place and date of birth.

Work permits or employment certificates must be obtained from your local school for all minors 14 and 15 years of age before beginning work. 820 ILCS 205/9-12.

Typically, after an employer agrees to hire a minor, the minor obtains from his or her school a Department of Education form entitled "Statement of Intent to Employ Minor and Request for Work Permit". The form must be completed by the minor and the employer and signed by the minor's parent or guardian and the employer.

8 hours of work per day, 40 per week are permitted when school is off. During a school week, 3 hours of work are permitted per day and up to 18 hours per week. For Minors Ages 16 and 17: Ohio has no restrictions on maximum working hours for minors aged 16 and 17.

This application should be completed by the student, the student's legal guardian and the student's prospective employer. The completed application should be submitted to the school in which the student is enrolled.

J Wisconsin has no limit during non-school week on daily hours or nightwork for 16-and 17-year-olds. However, they must be paid time and one-half for work in excess of 10 hours per day or 40 hours per week, which ever is greater.

A work permit is required before anyone under the age of 16 is allowed to work in any job with the exception of agriculture or domestic service work.16- and 17-year-old minors do NOT need to obtain a work permit prior to beginning work. Work permits will not be issued for minors ages 16 or 17.
