Click where you want to reference to the footnote or endnote. On the References tab, select Insert Footnote or Insert Endnote. Enter what you want in the footnote or endnote. Return to your place in the document by double-clicking the number or symbol at the beginning of the note.

If you refer to the same source again in your paper, you do not need to repeat the same full citation. Instead, you provide a shortened version of the footnote, which includes enough information for the reader to find the full citation in your bibliography or in an earlier footnote.

In footnotes, the author's first name is listed first, while in the bibliography, the author's last name is listed first. The titles of books and journals are put in italics. The titles of articles are put in quotation marks. All key words in titles are capitalized.

You can put more than one citation in the same footnote. You would create only one note, placing a semicolon (;) between the citations.

Speech transcript Provide both years in the in-text citation, separated with a slash, the earlier year first. Describe the type of transcript in square brackets (e.g., ?[Speech transcript]?). Provide the site name in the source element of the reference, followed by the URL of the transcript.

Footnote or Endnote (N): Firstname Lastname, ?Title of Web Page,? Name of Website, Publishing Organization, publication or revision date if available, access date if no other date is available, URL.

Footnotes are listed at the bottom of the page on which a citation is made. A numeral is placed in the text to indicate the cited work and again at the bottom of the page in front of the footnote. A footnote lists the author, title and details of publication, in that order.

A. The information given in a footnote includes the author, the title, the place of publication, the publisher, the date of publication and the page or pages on which the quotation or information is found.

Published June 7, 2017. Footnotes are notes placed at the bottom of a page. They cite references or comment on a designated part of the text above it. For example, say you want to add an interesting comment to a sentence you have written, but the comment is not directly related to the argument of your paragraph.

To customize a footnote or endnote: Click the reference number or mark in the body of the text or click Insert > Show Footnotes(for endnotes, click Insert > Show Endnotes).
