Build Bookmark Paper For Free

To make a traditional bookmark, cut a piece of cardstock paper to your desired size, for example 2 to 3 inches wide and no more than 6 inches long. Then, decorate your bookmark by adding pictures from a magazine or textured paper.

Many are made of cardboard or heavy paper, but they are also constructed of paper, ribbon, fabric, felt, steel, wire, tin, beads, wood, plastic, vinyl, silver, gold, and other precious metals, some decorated with gemstones. The first detached, and therefore collectible, bookmarkers began to appear in the 1850s.

Paper. The paper you choose for your bookmark should be quite thick, but not as heavy as card: between 150 and 250 gsm is perfect. The finish is also important if you opt for recycled or natural paper there's no need for additional finishes, but coated paper may be even more effective with lamination added.

I used a pretty thick fusible interfacing, so that it would give the bookmarks a stiff feel. I also liked that after it was made and you add the heat that it attaches to the fabric vs has the fabric separate from the interfacing.

Cardstock is of the most widely available and easiest materials for making bookmarks. Paper can easily be printed on a home printer, cut with scissors, embossed or laminated to make bookmarks of any size, shape and design.
