Fax (short for facsimile), sometimes called telecopying or telefax (the latter short for telefacsimile), is the telephonic transmission of scanned printed material (both text and images), normally to a telephone number connected to a printer or other output device.

The full form of FAX is Facsimile. It is a telephone transmission, via a phone line, of a scanned copy of images and text printed on paper, transmitted between two people. The device used to transfer original electronically or replicated scanned documents through the telephone network is termed a fax device.

Usage. At the end of a transmission, the sending fax machine waits for a signal from the receiving fax machine to say ?transfer complete.? When the sending fax machine receives this signal, it prints out a fax receipt to show proof of receipt.

A transmission report is a type of fax log. It identifies a list of fax transmissions (calls) and their status.

From the Home screen on the printer control panel, select Reports, and then select Fax Reports. Select the log or report to print or view. Select the Print or View button.

Fax machines were ubiquitous in offices in the 1980s and 1990s, but have gradually been rendered obsolete by Internet-based technologies such as email and the World Wide Web. They remain particularly popular in medical administration and law enforcement.
