Adjust Footer Document For Free

Go to Insert > Header or Footer. Choose from a list of standard headers or footers, go to the list of Header or Footer options, and select the header or footer that you want. Or, create your own header or footer by selecting Edit Header or Edit Footer. When you're done, select Close Header and Footer or press Esc.

Editing headers and footers. After you close the header or footer, it will still be visible, but it will be locked. Simply double-click a header or footer to unlock it, which will allow you to edit it.

1 Answer. It seems you need to ensure that you link the footers to the previous page and that you have that option enabled. In a document where the header or footer varies by section, you can make the header or footer the same across section boundaries.

In most cases, when you can't edit the header or footer, the reason is that the content isn't supported for editing in Word Online. You should be able to download the document to your local drive, though.

By default word will gray out your header and footer just to delimit those areas. As Alex suggests, Word dims/blurs the header and foots when you're not actively editing them, so that you know you're not actively editing them, and to visually separate the header/footer from the main body.

Go to Insert > Header or Footer, and then select Remove Header or Remove Footer.

Change the header and footer marginClick VIEW > Ruler. Double-click the header or footer area. Press CTRL+A. On the ruler, drag the right indent marker.

On the Insert tab select Footer > Edit Footer. Look towards the bottom of the document, which will show the Position of the footer. You can change the height by reducing the value in the Footer from Bottom section. You can also accomplish this (if your Ruler is visible) by dragging the footer section down.
