Here are the steps on how to update your MX records: Log in to your Control Panel. Go to Domain Central. Click on the domain you want to edit. Click DNS. From Modify, select MX Records.

MX records are essentially a standard part of email delivery. They're technically not required for a sender domain, but due to spam, receiving servers may reject emails from a domain without an MX record. In short, if you want to successfully deliver emails, you need an MX record.

The MX-record contains the host name of the computer(s) that handle the emails for a domain and a prioritization code. Emails are routed through to the IP address which is set in the A-record of the host. The A-record (or address-record) determines which IP address belongs to a domain name.

1. A and AAAA records. Both of these records hold the IP address of the domain, the difference being that the A record holds the IPv4 address, and the AAAA record the IPv6 address. They don't really have any effect on your email, but they are two of the most important records, as they link your domain and IP.

Mail is delivered to the mail exchange server with the lowest preference number (highest priority), so the MX record you use for mail routing should have the lowest preference number, typically 0. Note: Use 0 for your mail routing record, and 10 for the record for validating that you own your domain.

A DNS 'mail exchange' (MX) record directs email to a mail server. The MX record indicates how email messages should be routed in ance with the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP, the standard protocol for all email). Like CNAME records, an MX record must always point to another domain.

Like A records, AAAA records enable client devices to learn the IP address for a domain name. The client device can then connect with and load the website. AAAA records are only used when a domain has an IPv6 address in addition to an IPv4 address, and when the client device in question is configured to use IPv6.

You will first need an A record for your mailserver. Your static IP address from your ISP was the first step, of course. For example, you might log into the web portal for the example.com domain and create an "A" record for "mail" for 192.0.However, mailservers still wouldn't know that this is where to send mail.
