2019 Refund Delays There are two key exceptions to the estimated 21-day return timeline. Due to the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act of 2015, the IRS must hold tax refunds that include the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) until February 15, 2019.

The IRS expects the earliest EITC/ACTC related refunds to be available in taxpayer bank accounts or debit cards starting February 27, 2019, if these taxpayers chose direct deposit and there are no other issues with their tax return.

Here's how it works out for the 2019 tax year. Let's say you don't have a child dependent. You'll still qualify for the EITC if your income does not exceed $15,570 for the year and you're not filing a joint married return. If you are filing a joint married return, you can earn up to $21,370 and still qualify.

And families with children often qualify for the largest credits. The Earned Income Tax Credit (EIC or EITC) is a tax credit for low- and moderate-income wage earners. For the 2019 tax year, the earned income credit ranges from $529 to $6,557 depending on your filing status and how many children you have.

In previous years, the child tax credit was 100% non-refundable, meaning if your tax bill totaled $0 and you qualified for the credit, you could get the full child tax credit amount in the form of a refund from the IRS. ... That number has stayed the same between 2018 and 2019, just as the $2,000 tax credit amount has.

The Child Tax Credit is a tax credit worth up to $2,000 per qualifying child and $500 per qualifying dependent in 2019. It is one of three kid-focused federal tax credits that are among the most effective ways to reduce your tax bill.

The EITC can be worth as much as $6,431 for the 2018 tax year and $6,557 for the 2019 tax year. However, the credit amount varies significantly depending on tax filing status, number of qualifying children, and income earned.

To qualify for and claim the Earned Income Credit you must: Have earned income; and. Have been a U.S. citizen or resident alien for the entire tax year; and. Have a valid Social Security number (not an ITIN) for yourself, your spouse (if filing jointly), and any qualifying children on your return; and.

For 2018, the maximum Earned Income Tax Credit per taxpayer is: $519 with no Qualifying Children. $3,461 with one Qualifying Child. $5,716 with two Qualifying Children.

In general, your credit is more valuable if you have one or more Qualifying Children. For 2018, the maximum Earned Income Tax Credit per taxpayer is: $519 with no Qualifying Children. $3,461 with one Qualifying Child.
