In-person enrollment is done at the Oregon School District Office: The District Office is located at 123 East Grove St., Oregon; hours are 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Please call 608-835-4033 if you would like to schedule an in-person enrollment appointment.

School districts vary in how and where they offer TK classes, so be sure to ask your local district about what options are available in your area. Kindergarten is available to children whose fifth birthdays are on or before September 1st of the school year.

Call your child's new school and schedule an appointment. Be sure you bring the Maryland Transfer Form. The appointment will ensure that time is set aside to speak with you and to answer any questions you may have. Also ask what items you need to bring with you to enroll your child in the new school.

Enrollment for TK or kindergarten usually starts in March of the year before your child starts school and continues throughout the school year. You'll need to visit your child's school to pick up and complete an enrollment packet which typically includes: A request for up-to-date vaccine records. Proof of residency.

Although rarely used, on a case-by-case basis, a district may admit a child who has attained the age of five years (EC 48000[b]). However, the child cannot start school at the beginning of the school year, and must wait to attend until five years of age is reached.

At the kindergarten level, older students (the ones who start closer to 6) do tend to do better than the younger students. Over time this will, of course, balance out. As for long term schooling, there are definitely differences between being the oldest and the youngest in your grade.

Since school is mandatory for six-year-old students, parents and guardians must enroll their children in school once they reach the age of six (EC Section 48200). It is a local decision, with parental input, whether the six-year-old student will be enrolled in kindergarten or first grade.
