To apply for a Class D or Temporary Visitor full (adult) driver's license, you must pass a vision test, a written exam, and a driving exam. Since you are at least 18 years of age, you don't have to hold an instruction permit.

Completing an Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) course is now required to get a Class A CDL in Illinois. The ELDT provides a minimum set of standards for new commercial drivers regardless of the state in which they receive training. The goal is to ensure all drivers learn the same basic safety skills.

Class D licenses — Most Illinois drivers have a Class D license that permits the operation of any passenger vehicle, including vans and pickup trucks. Drivers must operate passenger vehicles only for private purposes such as commuting to work or for pleasure.

After the completion of the required hours and road test at the DMV, you will receive a Certificate in Truck Driver Training and Commercial Driver's License.
