How long will I have to wait? It is not possible to provide a specific wait time. Criteria used to place individuals and families changes regularly. Halton Region must follow provincial government regulations, which means the date on your application is not the only information used for placement on our wait list.

Special Priority status supports an individual, who lives or lived with an abuser and is experiencing or did experience domestic abuse and violence, to leave the abusive situation permanently. To determine your eligibility you must provide proof that you live or lived with the abuser in the last three months.

The Region of Waterloo Co-ordinated Access System (ROWCAS) Special Priority status for applicants who are abused, gives priority access for housing to applicants whose personal safety, or whose family's safety is at risk because of abuse by a partner/spouse or other family member with whom they live, or whom is ...

At initial occupancy, total household income must not exceed four times the annual equivalent of the monthly occupancy cost for the unit. If a member of a household owns or has an interest in a residential property that can be lived in year-round, the household is not eligible for an affordable housing unit.

The intent of SPP is to help an applicant that is eligible for Rent-Geared-to-Income (RGI) housing separate permanently from living in an abusive situation. It is given to an applicant when a person or family's safety is at risk.

Income limit To be eligible for RGI, you cannot have income of more than: $27,500 for a bachelor unit. $36,000 for a one-bedroom unit.

There are waiting lists for subsidized housing across Ontario. In some areas, the waiting list is 7 to 10 years. In other places the wait is shorter. Generally, people who have been on the waiting list longer will be offered housing first.
