How to use or fill out the Clipping Paths And Text Wrap In Adobe InDesign CS5 online
This guide provides clear instructions on using clipping paths and text wrap features in Adobe InDesign CS5. Follow the step-by-step process to enhance your design projects effectively.
Follow the steps to create effective clipping paths and manage text wrap.
- Click ‘Get Form’ button to obtain the form and open it in your editor.
- Open an image in Photoshop, selecting an image that is manageable for tracing with the Pen tool.
- Select the Pen tool from the toolbox and trace the subject you want to separate from the background. Ensure the path is closed by clicking the first point you created.
- Access the Paths palette (Window>Paths) and double-click on the Work Path to give it a descriptive name to identify it in InDesign.
- If needed, create additional paths by clicking below the existing path in the Paths palette, using the Pen tool to trace other subjects, and naming each new path appropriately.
- Save your Photoshop image as either a PSD or TIFF file to retain the created paths.
- Open or create a new document in InDesign.
- Use the Rectangle Frame tool to create a large frame on your page, filling it with a color of your choice.
- Select the Type tool and create a text frame to place over the previous colored frame. Do not click the Type tool in the frame to avoid confusion.
- Create another frame for your traced image from Photoshop, which can initially cover the text.
- Insert your PSD or TIFF image into the frame using File>Place and adjust it with Object>Fitting>Fit Content Proportionally.
- From the Object menu, choose Clipping Path, set it to Photoshop Path, and ensure the Preview checkbox is enabled.
- Next, access the Text Wrap palette from the Window menu. Click the Wrap around Object Shape option to make the text wrap around your designated shape.
- Make adjustments to the path as necessary, using the Direct Selection tool if the text doesn't wrap perfectly.
- Explore other options by returning to the Clipping Path dialog to select different paths or use the Detect Edges feature for background removal.
- Finally, save your changes, and download, print, or share the form as needed.

To wrap text around a cutout in InDesign, first create your cutout using clipping paths. Select your cutout object and then navigate to 'Text Wrap' in the Windows menu. Choose the option that suits your design, such as 'Wrap Around Bounding Box' or 'Wrap Around Object Shape'. This feature helps enhance the layout by allowing text to flow naturally around your cutting path.
