- Fill out section A with your personal information. This includes your last name, first name, middle initial, street address, city, state, zip code, social security number or ID number, date of birth, home phone number, email address, and an alternate or cell phone number.

This should include yourself, your parents (including a stepparent), other children your parents support, and others who live with your parents and are supported by them. Include the age and college information for anyone enrolled in higher education.
- In section C, declare your income information. If you filed a 2012 tax return, indicate whether you used the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to transfer your income data into the FAFSA or if you will submit an IRS tax return transcript later. If you were not employed, check the indicated box.
- In section D, input the income information for your parents in a similar manner as your section. Indicate if they have used the IRS Data Retrieval Tool or will submit their tax return transcripts later.
- Section E requests information regarding government benefits, child support, and other required details. Ensure to report accurately based on your household's circumstances.
