Cost of an Ignition Interlock Device (IID) in Washington Washington ignition interlock devices cost under $3.00 a day. The cost will vary depending on the features you are required to have and how long you need to have the device installed for.

3. Blowing with a BAC of 0.05% or Higher. Attempting to blow the IID with a Blood Alcohol Content of 0.05% or higher will lead to an automatic violation. The IID locks and the vehicle cannot start. Soon after such a scenario happens, the violator should report to the service provider within 48 hours.

If you fail a second time, the period you have to wait before trying again will be longer. In many states, the third attempt is your last chance. Pass the test and you can start the vehicle. Fail the breath test, and the device will lock you out permanently.

Note that you must keep your BAC very low to pass a rolling test with an IID. For example, most drivers in California must keep their BAC below 0.08% to operate a vehicle legally. Conversely, you may fail an IID test if your BAC is above 0.02%, leading to harsh penalties and the loss of your driving privileges.

What happens if I violate the terms of the IIL? It is a criminal offense to violate the terms of an Ignition Interlock License punishable by up to a year in jail and up to a $5000.00 fine.

Violations could mean the Interlock Device detected alcohol at or above your state's fail level, but there are other reasons as well. For example, if you missed any of your tests, or the Device detected tampering, circumventing, bypassing or disabling of the Device, this will be a violation result.

In California, if an offender misses a rolling retest while driving, it is treated as a violation because it poses significant safety risks. The IID is designed not only to prevent intoxicated driving but also to ensure that drivers remain sober throughout their journey.
