The partnership uses Schedule K-1 to report your share of the partnership's income, deductions, credits, etc. Keep it for your records. Don't file it with your tax return unless you're specifically required to do so.

Schedule K-1 and Form 1041 An estate or trust that generates income of $600 or more; and estates with nonresident alien beneficiaries must file a Form 1041. Income received from the trust or estate and deductions and credits is reported to beneficiaries on a K-1.

An estate income tax return, or Form 1041, is required when an estate generates more than $600 in annual income. An estate can earn income in the form of dividends on stocks, interest on bonds, or rent from real estate properties owned by the estate.

Decedent's Estate The fiduciary (or one of the joint fiduciaries) must file Form 1041 for a domestic estate that has: Gross income for the tax year of $600 or more, or. A beneficiary who is a nonresident alien.

Not every estate or trust is required to file Form 1041 for the income it earns. No return is necessary if the estate has no income-producing assets or its annual gross income (AGI) is less than $600. The only exception is if one of the grantor's beneficiaries is a nonresident alien.

If the estate generates more than $600 in annual gross income, you are required to file Form 1041, U.S. Income Tax Return for Estates and Trusts. An estate may also need to pay quarterly estimated taxes. See Form 1041 instructions for information on when to file quarterly estimated taxes.

The fiduciary of a domestic decedent's estate, trust, or bankruptcy estate files Form 1041 to report: The income, deductions, gains, losses, etc. of the estate or trust. The income that is either accumulated or held for future distribution or distributed currently to the beneficiaries.

If you are the beneficiary of a trust or estate and you receive a K-1, you need to include the amounts from the K-1 on your personal income tax return.
