Sales Tax Formulas/Calculations: State Tax Amount = Price x (State Tax Percentage / 100) Use Tax Amount = Price x (Use Tax Percentage / 100) Local Tax Amount = Price x (Local Tax Percentage / 100) Total = Price + State Tax Amount + Use Tax Amount + Local Tax Amount.

The Local Services Tax is a local tax payable by all individuals who hold a job or profession within a taxing jurisdiction imposing the tax.

The Pennsylvania sales tax rate is 6 percent. By law, a 1 percent local tax is added to purchases made in Allegheny County, and 2 percent local tax is added to purchases made in Philadelphia.

The local service tax (LST), sometimes called the municipal service tax (MST), is a tax imposed by municipalities in Pennsylvania on individuals working within their jurisdiction.

The LST amount listed is the amount due annually. Accounting CS divides this amount by the number of pay periods per year to determine the single check amount. For example, a weekly pay schedule employee would pay $1 per check ($52 / 52 weeks = $1).

Self-employed taxpayers shall pay the tax to the municipality or the tax collector 30 days after the end of each calendar quarter. Limits. The total LST paid by any taxpayer in a calendar year remains limited to $52, regardless of the number of political subdivisions in which an individual works during the year.

The PA LST is a fully deductible income tax. It just not a deductible EARNED income tax. It has no bearing on unreimbursed employee expenses etc. It should be placed under Local/Other taxes paid.

The tax assessed on each employee for a payroll period is calculated by dividing the total rate of the LST by the number of payroll periods established by the employer for the calendar year. When calculating the prorated share, employers are required to round down to the nearest one- hundredth of a dollar.
